Uni vs. self-teaching
#1
Is there any reason to go to uni to learn programming these days when there are so many online resources available for free / much cheaper? I honestly don't see the point in it anymore, aside from the social aspect.

Im currently an IT student and I think if youre REALLY focused enough, you could teach yourself, but if you have ADHD like me, I recommend university, theyre very thorough with everything and would teach you the very basics first.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I think it does greatly depend on which country you're in; some countries' higher education systems are failing due to commoditisation, strikes, etc., so it can actually end up being a much worse experience than just teaching yourself. If you have the drive to succeed in university, you can probably get away with self-teaching — especially now that we have ChatGPT, effectively a personalised tutor (at least, at the junior level).
